Family background and early life.
Servant of God Apostle K.T.Thomas was born as the
first born of Mr.Idichandi Thomas and Mrs.Dinamma at Kallissery in
kerala in the year 1927 on the 18th June. Being the first-born at home
he received lot of love and affection from parents and the near ones.
From the very early stage, he did not have a desire to
live a life of his own nor was he self-seeking. Even in the early
days, he found pleasure in sharing life in the company of friends. As
he grew up this nature was predominant through out his life. Before
coming to the saving knowledge of the Lord, he shared and enjoy life
in the company of others as a worldly man and later on he was totally
absorbed in the ministry and spiritual activities together with the
children of God. During the school day’s he had a lot of schoolmates
as friends, and grew up along with them in the worldly ways.
Occasionally he attended the Sunday school but spent more time in
playing with friends.
As the parents were of brethren faith even though they
were him to the Sunday meetings, along with others but he used to
meetings and used to spent such time in playing with others. Being
a brethren believer also close relation of the great poet K. V.
Simon his mother led a very prayerful life. During late hours to night
she used to pray for the children particularly for the first-born and
this prayer of his devote mother had greatly blessed his life later
on. He very thankfully admits this fact. Our God is the one who
honours those who call upon him.
In the Indian Army
Army matriculation he joined the army senior without the consent of
his loving father. Away from home in the army even though he learnt
discipline in good measure, he could not know the living God nor had
the desire or willingness to do so despite the opportunities. But the
prayers of the loving parents were before the God Almighty.
Face to face with death on three occasions
He remembers the frightening three occasions during the year 1947.
1.
While on duty on the border area to Pakistan after the midnight, a man
who was a supporter Pakistan all of a sudden jumped before him
threatening to kill him unless certain weapons are not handed over to
him. But God saved him miraculously from the hands of the enemy.
2.
Again while at Ferozpur in Punjab, a dam was broken and the water was
gushing towards the town with great might when he and a group of
personnel were on emergency duty in town. But all of a sudden they
were surrounded by water. As they were totally pushed not knowing what
to do, suddenly a military truck arrived and saved him and the group
of men with him.
3.
The same night as they were asleep in a building a lot of people. Left
the town safer places, some people climbed the tree and others on tall
buildings. In the meantime a large number of houses crumbled down
because of the strong current of the water. Even though he and his
group were in one of small buildings, god kept the building safe from
crumbling down and protected them.
Thus on several occasions, God had spared his life from
death really know the protecting hand of the mighty
God during those days.
A totally lost life
As the days went by, he became more and more worldly.
He almost lost faith in the living God. He started learning communism
along with some friends who had such backgrounds. Major portion of the
wages was spent enjoying worldly life along with the friends. His life
an aimless boat in the ocean. His life became so miserable that even
his worldly friends started mocking and scoffing at him. During these
days one of his friends went home on leave and he is a letter writer
to his Muslim friend about Thomas. In reply he wrote back that “Thomas
is just like a cigar burning from both the ends.” His life was in side
a miserably shattered stage that it could burn out to the end any
time.
Marriage & Family
life
In the month of April 1952, Thomas went home on
leave parents made arrangements for his marriage. Even though he was
not later on agreed. Just when a week was
left for the marriage he decided to go back to Pune where he was
ported at that time. But God didn’t allow him to do so.
On the 8th of May, 1952 he thus started his married
life. The bride was a 16year old girl Marykutty who was a brethren
believer. She was the first born of Koshy teacher, who was the
first-born of Geevarghese Koshy. (They belong to the Ayirur Cherakara
of families in Kottarakara. By this time (at the time of Thomas
marriage) Koshy teacher was saying at Punalur. Even though the above
family was of Jacobite back ground, through the ministry of
Evg.Chackochan, they were brought to the brethren fellowship).
Marriage was solemnised at the
brethren church hall at Umayatukara (Kallissery) by the hand his
paternal uncle Evg.Abraham. (Thomas used to thank God quite after
saying that surely his life partner has been provided by God).
