On the first Pentecost after Jesus rose from the dead, the disciples of Jesus were in prayer. God sent His Spirit upon all of them. They started speaking spiritual truths in languages they had never learnt. Christians who believe that such an experience is available to all who believe in Jesus are called \"Pentecostal\" Christians. The movement traces its origin to a prayer meeting in Azusa Street, Los Angeles, in 1906. However, there were others \u2013 even in India \u2013 in the 19th century who received the Holy Spirit.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-1592\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse1592\" aria-controls=\"collapse1592\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> How are Pentecostals different from other major types of Christians?<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse \" id=\"collapse1592\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-159\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-1592\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><ol><li>Pentecostal Christians are <em>eager to obey<\/em> the Lord Jesus' command to share the good news of His Kingdom to all humanity\u2014even if it brings them trouble.<\/li><li>Besides caring for spiritual needs, Pentecostals are <em>sensitive<\/em> to human physical suffering and need.<\/li><li>Pentecostals are exuberant and emotionally expressive during worship and prayer.<\/li><li>The Pentecostal movement <em>broke barriers<\/em> of colour, race, class, and caste wherever it spread. People of various social strata mingle freely in their gatherings.<\/li><li>Pentecostals <em>invest more in people<\/em> than in infrastructure. They do not believe in the need for \u2018holy\u2019 buildings. They gather in homes, hotels, and even in open spaces for prayer.<\/li><li>Pentecostals are <em>not discouraged<\/em> when they are persecuted or oppressed.
